Cranbrook, BC (CKLQ) – It was a night to forget for the Brandon Wheat Kings as they dropped a 6-2 decision to the Kootenay Ice on Friday.

The ICE got off to a quick start as Slovakian Martin Bodak beat Dylan Myskiw on a nice feed from Alec Baer to open the scoring.

Three minutes later, Baer got back in on the action as he ripped home his 19th of the season off a faceoff win in the Brandon zone. The powerplay goal gave the ICE a 2-0 lead after the opening period.

The game quickly went from bad to worse in the 2nd period as the ICE scored three goals in the first 10:53 of the middle frame. A pair of powerplay goals and an even strength marker opened up a 5-0 lead for the ICE, who were looking for their 2nd consecutive victory.

Brandon would get on the board before the period closed as Luka Burzan scored his first as a Wheat King. The goal broke the shutout bid for Matt Berlin who made 21 stops for the win.

The teams would exchange goals in the third period, but the Wheat Kings couldn’t mount a comeback and suffered their 7th straight loss.

Brandon is now 0-4-1-1 on this season high seven-game road trip. The ICE and Wheat Kings will do it all again on Saturday night, puck drop is 8:00 MB time at Western Financial Place.
