Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – The Brandon Wheat Kings snapped their three game losing streak with a 2-0 win over the Kootenay ICE on Saturday night.

Cole Reinhardt’s first period marker would stand up as the game winner as the Wheat Kings picked up their 10th win of the season.

The offense was tough to find once again for Brandon who ran into a hot goaltender in Bailey Brkin. The former Swift Current Bronco made 30 saves, a number of them in highlight reel fashion to earn the games 2nd star honours.

Not to be outdone at the other end of the rink, Logan Thompson turned aside 23 shots to record his first shutout of the season.

A scoreless 2nd period was highlighted by Ben McCartney dropping the mitts for his first WHL fight. The MacDonald, MB product fought Oakbank’s Brett Davis behind the Kootenay net and brought the 3500+ fans to their feet.

Rylan Bettens would add an insurance marker in the third period as he redirected home a Kale Clague point shot past Brkin.

Neither team could convert on the powerplay with Brandon going 0/5 and Kootenay finishing 0/3.

Brandon will now take a week off before welcoming Saskatoon on Remembrance Day. (7:30 at Westman Communications Group Place).
