Brandon, MB (CKLQ) –  The Brandon Wheat Kings got 36-saves from Jiri Patera and a hat-trick from Stelio Mattheos as they capped off Jordin Tootoo Homecoming Night with a 5-2 win over the Everett Silvertips.

Once again the Wheat Kings found a way to open the scoring. Just 8:09 into the period, Lynden McCallum beat Dustin Wolf with a low wrist shot for the 8th ‘first-goal’ of the season for Brandon.

The Wheat Kings who killed off four penalties in the first period, including a full 2:00 5on3, would make it 2-0 off the stick of Stelio Mattheos. The Carolina Hurricanes prospect was not done there.

In the 2nd, the Silvertips would capitalize on a pair of powerplays but it was the Wheat Kings with two goals in three minutes to maintain a two-goal lead.

First, it was Lynden McCallum with his 2nd of the night before Mattheos took a great pass from Chase Hartje and deposited it past Dustin Wolf for his 2nd.

Despite the goals, Everett took control in the 2nd outshooting the Wheat Kings 22-11 but it was the Czech import goaltender Jiri Patera who stood on his head keeping the Wheat Kings in front.

In the third, Stelio Mattheos would ice the game with an empty-netter on a selfless play from Linden McCorrister to give himself his first hat-trick of the season.

Ben McCartney and Luka Burzan each finished with a pair of assists as the Wheat Kings move to 6-1-1-1 on the season and 4-1-0-1 at Westoba Place.

Brandon finished the night 1/4 on the powerplay while the ‘Tips scored twice on six chances.

This five-game homestand ends Saturday night when the Calgary Hitmen make their first trip to the Wheat City. (7:30 on QCountry Radio.)
