Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – The Brandon Wheat Kings cooled off the hottest team in the Eastern Conference on Sunday afternoon, beating the Saskatoon Blades 5-3 at Westman Place.
Ty Lewis lead the way with two goals and an assist while Tanner Kaspick and Stelio Mattheos chipped in with two point nights to give Brandon their 2nd straight win.
The Blades, who had won seven straight games came into Sunday winners of 10 of their last 11, while Brandon was fresh off snapping a four game losing streak on Friday night.
Chase Wouters had a pair of goals for the Blades who were a perfect 5/5 on the penalty kill.
Logan Thompson and Ryan Kubic each made a number of highlight reel stops with Thompson earning the victory with 15 saves.
The win moves Brandon to 27-12-0-1 on the season, 10 points up on the Blades and six back of the 2nd place Swift Current Broncos.
The Wheat Kings will continue this five-game homestand on Tuesday night when they welcome the Edmonton Oil Kings. (7:00 puck drop on QCountry Radio)
