The Brandon Wheat Kings made a pair of major moves on Wednesday acquiring a pair of defensemen and a goaltender in exchange for Jordan Papirny and Jordan Wharrie.

The Wheat Kings first move of the day came as they moved 20 year old goaltender Jordan Papirny and a 2018 4th round pick to the Swift Current Broncos in exchange for 19 year old goaltender Travis Child as well as fellow 19 year old Kade Jensen.

The Wheat Kings also picked up a 2019 2nd & 5th round pick from the Broncos.

The move then allowed the club to pursue 20 year old defensemen Dmitry Osipov from the Vancouver Giants in exchange for 19 year old defensemen Jordan Wharrie.

“We worked hard as a group to put this whole thing together” said General Manager Grant Armstrong.

“This is a hockey deal and I really want to stress that. We are trying to make our hockey team better to take on the task of being a strong hockey club in the 2nd half and on into the playoffs.”

9:43am – The Brandon Wheat Kings have assigned 98 D Blake Jameson to the Swan Valley Stampeders of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.

4:00pm – The Brandon Wheat Kings sent overage goalkeeper Jordan Papirny and a fourth round draft pick in 2018 to the Swift Current Broncos in exchange for two 19-year olds – netminder Travis Child and defenceman Kade Jensen as well as both a second and fifth round pick in the 2019 Bantam Draft.

-The Brandon Wheat Kings trade defenceman Jordan Wharrie to the Vancouver Giants in exchange for 20-year old Russian blueliner Dmitry Osipov.


-The Regina Pats have acquired 18-year-old defenceman Josh Mahura, 18-year-old forward Jeff de Wit and a conditional third round pick in 2019 from Red Deer. In exchange, the Pats send 18-year-old forward Lane Zablocki, 16-year-old defenceman Dawson Bateaux (Foxwarren, MB), a first round pick in 2017 and a first rounder in either 2018 or 2019 to Red Deer.

– The Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club have acquired 18-year-old left wing Luke Coleman and a fourth-round pick in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft from the Prince Albert Raiders in exchange for 19-year-old centre Jordy Stallard (Brandon, MB) and a seventh-round selection in 2017.

-The Kootenay ICE have acquired Brett Davis (Oakbank, MB) and Colton Kroeker, along with second and fourth round selections in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft in exchange for Forwards Matt Alfaro, Zak Zborosky and a sixth round selection in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft.


-Former Brandon Wheat Kings defensemen Jordan Thomson has been traded from the MJHL’s Portage Terriers to the Virden Oil Capitals in exchange for defensemen Cole Oliver.

-The BCHL’s Penticton Vees acquire the CJHL playing rights of D Jordan Wharrie (97) from Nanaimo for F Dakota Odgers (96). (Meaning, If Wharrie does not play in the WHL as a 20 year old next season, he will have the option to play in the BCHL for Penticton)
